Why ”The Two Halves”?

Duality is an immutable law of the universe… good and evil, yin and yang, love and hate. So it is with me, a product of two continents, two political ideologies, two languages, two worldviews, two childhoods and two egos, in the Freudian sense of the word. Of course, it should come as no surprise that I happen to be a contradictory, idiosyncratic, conflicted and often divided individual. Not that I lose much sleep over it. It’s just that more than most people’s lives, mine has been perpetually affected by the push and pull of two continually opposing perspectives.

Conflict is, after all, what gives the world its color, humanity its appeal, philosophy its breadth. Opposing influences continue to shape our universe. As an ardent follower of the hard to define field of metaphysics, perhaps I can best explain it this way – if evil didn’t exist, that is to say, if we had nothing to contrast it against, how would we even know what good is?

In this blog, I hope to cover many, perhaps only appearing on the surface to be unrelated subjects. This blog will span the inner reaches of my mind, from travel to politics, technology to philosophy, poetry to advertising, I promise to leave no leaf unturned. Anything that’s interesting will be game. If you are also of a curious mind, realize that there is usually more than one answer to any given question and at least two sides to any story, and perhaps like me, marvel daily at life’s complexity, then we may have something in common, and by extension, to share.

Writing is one of the few ‘natural’ talents I possess and something I have always enjoyed. Words have enormous power – they crystallize our thoughts, ameliorate us with their touch and never cease to give back. Yesterday Slovenia celebrated 160 years since the death of France Prešeren. His poem ‘Zdravljica’, which I like to joke as being purely an ode to alcoholism, is now the national anthem. I can only hope to do him proud. A friend of mine said it best, when upon being asked what he thought of the name for my blog, he responded with ‘I like it because it sums you up on a high level’. My thoughts exactly.
