Barcelona are reportedly considering a Bosman move for 28-year-old Portuguese international Raphael Guerreiro.
Raphael Guerreiro has been the subject of interest from Barcelona, as stated in a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes. The Catalan giants are planning a Bosman move for the 28-year-old left-back from Borussia Dortmund ahead of the summer transfer window in 2023.
Since joining Borussia Dortmund in July 2016, Raphael Guerreiro has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the Bundesliga. The Portuguese international has been a crucial figure for the Black and Yellows. And he’s currently in Qatar, representing his country in the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
The 28-year-old is having a good season in 2022/23, with 3 goals and three assists in 18 appearances. And he was lately on fire as Portugal thrashed Switzerland in the World Cup Round of 16. Meanwhile, Guerreiro’s contract situation has caused problems for Dortmund. And such a scenario has piqued Barcelona’s interest.
In the summer transfer window, Barcelona signed a left-back, with Marcos Alonso settling in at Spotify Camp Nou. However, due to his versatility, the Spaniard can also play at centre back. Furthermore, the premier League defender is over 30 and is only a solution for a short period.
Jordi Alba’s future is also on the line, with Barcelona set to hold crunch discussions with the veteran. And, with the Spanish international expected to leave Camp Nou next summer, Barcelona will have to make a left-back acquisition. As a result, Guerreiro has emerged as a potential target for the Catalans.
The Portuguese international, 28, is unlikely to sign a new deal with Dortmund. And his impending free agent status makes him an appealing option for Barcelona, despite the club’s long-running financial problems. So Guerreiro could make a Bosman move to Camp Nou next year.
Other Options
However, the Borussia Dortmund defender is not the only player on Barcelona’s radar. The Catalan club is also interested in Alejandro Grimaldo and Luke Shaw. It will be exciting to see who Barcelona’s top target is heading into the summer transfer window in 2023.
