On August 10, Real Madrid will play Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup Final. Los Blancos are the champions of the Champions League, while the German team won the Europe League by beating teams like Barcelona.
Frankfurt was in no way the favourite to win the Europe League before the competition started. In fact, no one thought they’d get past the round of 16, where they played Real Betis.
Ultimately, they fought their way to the finals, defeating Barcelona, West Ham, and eventually Rangers. As previously said, this was partly due to their effective attacking strategy, aggressive pressing tactics, and the presence of star forward Filip Kostic.
During the course of the campaign, the Serbian notched three goals and four assists, including one in the championship game. Inconveniently for Frankfurt, he is a major doubt for the Super Cup final.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Kostic is close to joining Juventus. The 29-year-old has already accepted personal terms with the Italian giants and negotiations with Frankfurt are in the final stages.
There is a good likelihood that Kostic will miss the game with just one day to go till the final. As a result, Frankfurt’s offence will be severely limited without the winger.
He’s their best player by a wide margin. Real Madrid will be hoping that the transfer goes through before their big game, while the Bundesliga side will do everything they can to keep it from happening.
