Cody Gakpo to Real Madrid

Cody Gakpo scouted by Real Madrid multiple times – Romano

Cody Gakpo has erupted to become one of the breakout stars in Qatar for the FIFA World Cup 2022. The Dutch forward has three goals in three games to help his team advance to the Round of 16.

Gakpo had been making waves for PSV Eindhoven prior to his exploits with the Dutch national team at the World Cup. As per Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid has taken note of the 23-year old’s sensational rise.

According to a reputable transfer expert, Los Blancos have already been following Gakpo for a long period of time and have scouted him on numerous occasions.

However, as of now, no official negotiations have been initiated by Real Madrid nor any other club with Gakpo or his club, PSV.

The 23-year-old had a fantastic season last year and has continued to perform admirably this season. In just 24 games, he has already contributed 30 goals in all competitions (13 goals, 17 assists).

He has five goals in 11 matches for the Netherlands, three of these have come in the World Cup.

Gakpo is also wanted by Liverpool and Manchester United, in addition to Real Madrid. The former have scouted him on countless occasions, but have yet to make a formal approach.

Manchester United were in discussions with PSV in the summer to sign Gakpo but decided to go after Antony instead. They are, however, still in touch with his agents, who also represent Erik ten Hag. According to Romano, a move could happen in January or in the summer.

Gakpo primarily plays on the left flank for his club, a position Vinicius Jr holds at Real Madrid. However, he has played a more central role for the Netherlands in this World Cup, showcasing his versatility and convincing Madrid to make a move.

PSV had requested €50 million for Gakpo last summer. However, given his performance this season as well as the World Cup, they may be able to negotiate a higher price.
