Jorge Mendes is said to have offered Real Madrid the chance of signing Rafael Leao, a 23-year-old Portuguese international.
According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, Jorge Mendes has made an offer to Real Madrid for Rafael Leao. However, the defending champions of La Liga would not like to drive a hard bargain with AC Milan for the 23-year-old and will only make a move if the Portuguese international demands a move.
Rafael Leao has risen to superstardom after joining AC Milan from LOSC Lille in August 2019. During his time with Lille and Sporting CP, the player had always shown promise. After three and a half years at San Siro, he finally elevated his levels.
The 23-year-old was instrumental in AC Milan’s Serie A title-winning season in 2021/22. And the Portuguese international is having another productive season, with seven goals and nine assists in 20 games. Leao’s exploits have also caught the attention of several high-profile clubs, such as Real Madrid.
In the summer transfer window, Real Madrid will most likely look for an offensive reinforcement. With Eden Hazard having endured yet another frustrating season, the Belgian international’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu appear to be numbered. Furthermore, Marco Asensio has yet to renew his contract, with his current one expiring in the summer.
Despite Vinicius Junior’s exploits, Real Madrid may need to acquire at least one winger next year. And, with Karim Benzema struggling with fitness this season, Leao has become a viable target. The 23-year-old Portuguese international could play on both sides of the frontline, making him a viable option.
However, according to recent reports, Leao is an unrealistic target for Real Madrid. And, despite Jorge Mendes’ offer, a move may not be in the cards. It’s because AC Milan will almost certainly be a tough negotiator. Real Madrid will require the player to force for a transfer to the Bernabeu if he is to sign with them.
Furthermore, with clubs such as Chelsea interested, the race to sign the 23-year-old player would be intense. However, if Leao does not sign a new deal with AC Milan, the Rossoneri may be forced to sell him next summer.
