Kylian Mbappe’s ties to Real Madrid and its supporting cast may have frayed over the summer, but the PSG star still has a strong friendship with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
Benzema and Mbappé are both deserving of a shot at the Ballon d’Or this year. Mbappe, meanwhile, thinks his countryman should win this year. However, in an interview with L’Equipe, which was picked up by Mundo Deportivo, Mbappe expressed his desire to win at least one Balloon d’Or with PSG.
You can’t deny that Real always produce winner of the Ballon d’Or. True expertise exists, but what matters most is demonstrated on the playing field. You, not your team, will win the Ballon d’Or. I still have faith that I can pull off the triumph in Paris.
“He is 34, he just had the season of his life, he won another Champions League by being decisive many times… If I were Karim, and I didn’t get the Ballon d’Or, I’d forget about it for good.
Benzema’s case is just as strong as anyone else’s. The Frenchman was the best player on the best team last year, helping his team win La Liga and the Champions League in thrilling fashion.
Despite playing together on the national team, Mbappe and Benzema may be slightly disappointed that they won’t be able to do so on a regular basis for their respective clubs. Time is running out for one to join the other before Real Madrid’s Benzema turns 35 this summer and retires from the sport.
