Barcelona fans are reportedly excited at the prospect of Lionel Messi returning to the club after he won the FIFA World Cup. Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire at the end of the season, leading many to believe that there may be a chance for Barcelona to bring him back.
According to Marcal Llorente, it seems unlikely that Messi will return to Barcelona for several reasons. One of these reasons is that Messi is still upset about how he was treated by the club in the summer of 2021, particularly by club president Joan Laporta.
The two have not yet reconciled despite Laporta’s attempts to do so. Another issue is that Barcelona is currently facing financial difficulties and Laporta believes it would be impossible to sign Messi due to Financial Fair Play regulations. The club has already signed seven players after using multiple economic levers in the summer.
Barcelona is not able to use more financial resources to fund a potential move for Messi, even if the player becomes available for free at the end of the season.
Additionally, it seems that Messi is close to renewing his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, who have been working on a new deal to secure the player’s future at the club.
The new deal is expected to extend Messi’s stay at Paris Saint-Germain until at least 2024, with the option to extend for an additional year. The length of the contract will be decided by Messi, who has not yet commented on his future plans.
