Real Madrid are reportedly ready to make a January move for 25-year-old Spanish defender Jesus Vallejo.
According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, Jesus Vallejo may not be with Real Madrid for long. The reigning La Liga champions are prepared to offload the 25-year-old defender, who has gone down to the bottom of the Santiago Bernabeu’s pecking order for centre-backs.
Jesus Vallejo has had a difficult time since joining Real Madrid from Rayo Vallecano. The Spaniard was once regarded as one of his country’s most promising young defenders and was regarded as the future of the Spanish national team. However, since joining Real Madrid, his stock has plummeted.
The Spanish defender had arrived at Real Madrid as an 18-year-old prodigy eager to leave his mark at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, Vallejo’s best periods have come away from Real Madrid all through his various loan spells. These include loan spells with Eintracht Frankfurt and Granada.
Since his loan spell at Granada ended last year, the 25-year-old has been with Real Madrid’s first team. However, Vallejo had a disappointing 2021/22 season before making an impact in the latter stages. And his fortunes have deteriorated even more in the first half of the current campaign.
There are no prospective suitors mentioned in the report for the 25-year-old. However, recent reports indicate that a few La Liga clubs are interested in Vallejo. Getafe and Espanyol, in particular, appear interested in signing Real Madrid’s out-of-favour centre-back.
For the time being, it appears that Vallejo’s days at Real Madrid are numbered. It’s going to be interesting to see if Getafe and Espanyol emerge as contenders to sign him in January. And with Rafa Marin waiting in the wings, Real Madrid may not be too concerned about his departure.
